COPPER FLAME-PAINTING

To briefly explain the flame-painting process, we believe it is a little known fact that within the copper’s make-up there are many natural colours that are not able to be seen by the eye but when the copper is subject to intense heat an array of colours come forward and each different colour is subject to the particular heat of the copper at that time. So through a heating & cooling method you can arrive at chosen colours, along with the introduction of oxygen you can now introduce direction & shape, and repeating this process you can now build up 2D & 3D effects. This process is normally called “Flame Painting” and is very difficult to master

YAKISUGI - JAPANESE WOOD BURNING METHOD

Yakisugi is a traditional very old Japanese method of wood preservation and is achieved by burning/charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, whilst raising the grain results in a wonderful texture & a blackened colouration. Here at Oak and Still Creations we practice this method on many of our products. Because this is a natural process of carbonisation and no colours have been used it leaves a food safe finish. In today's modern world various other methods & processes can be applied to the original Yakisugi principle allowing a broader range of aesthetic looks
